First up was NPB with its embarrasingly parallel sub-test for an initial synthetic multi-core CPU test. With this long-standing benchmark, the Ryzen 3 1200G was much faster than the older A10-7870K Kaveri APU and slightly ahead of the Ryzen 3 1300X, but that put it just in line with the Core i3 4130 (Haswell) and well behind the Core i3 8100 quad-core that retails for about the same price. Similarly, the Ryzen 5 2400G lost to the Core i5 8400, the six-core Coffee Lake CPU that retails for around the same price albeit lacking as advanced graphics capabilities. The Ryzen 5 2400G does come out much better than the old FX-8350 Vishera CPU in this multi-threaded benchmark.

Within the scientific Parboil OpenMP CUTCP (Distance-Cutoff Coulombic Potential) test, the Raven Ridge APUs do a bit better relative to the tested Intel CPUs but still behind their similarly priced Coffee Lake competition, the i3 8100 and i5 8400.

At least the Raven Ridge APUs are a tremendous upgrade for anyone still running with an AMD Kaveri A10-7800 series APU.

With the MAFFT scientific test, the Ryzen 5 2400G comes in just at the same speed as the Core i3 8100.
