Raspberry Pi 3 Benchmarks vs. Eight Other ARM Linux Boards

The Raspberry Pi 3 was running the latest release of Raspbian 8.0 Jessie, which remains in 32-bit form. Rapsbian is running the Raspberry Pi 3 off a modified Linux 4.1 kernel and using GCC 4.9.2 as the default code compiler.

Raspberry Pi 3 Linux Benchmarks

All of these ARM Linux benchmarks were carried out in a fully-automated and open manner via the Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking software. Following the raw performance results are performance-per-dollar calculations based upon pricing for these boards. Follow-up benchmarks of the Raspberry Pi 3 are already being worked on for comparing to the ODROID-C2, OpenGL ES graphics tests, etc.

Unfortunately no performance-per-Watt benchmarks were done since my lone AC power monitoring solution, the WattsUp Pro USB power meter, supposedly isn't too accurate for low Wattage readings according to the manufacturer. As others have begun to report, the Raspberry Pi 3 does run noticeably hotter than other development boards. Here is my capture of the Raspberry Pi 3 thermal image when running some benchmarks and using the nifty thermal imager for Android smartphones and tablets.

Onto our first Raspberry Pi 3 benchmarks!
