First up was the common PHPBench test profile... In this case PHP 7.4's performance is on-par with PHP 7.3, but that is already much better for those still on PHP 7.0/7.1/7.2. As we've shown for years, the performance difference from PHP 5 to PHP 7 is a night and day difference while since then to PHP 7.4 is another nearly 40% uplift. With PHP 8.0-devel on PHP Git master, there is about 7% higher performance at this stage over PHP 7.4.

With PHP micro benchmarks, PHP 7.4 is showing up as a nice improvement over even PHP 7.3. PHP 8.0-dev also continues the trend of making PHP even faster. But PHP 8.0 isn't expected to be released until 2021.

When running some of our own Phoronix Test Suite built-in PHP benchmarks, PHP 7.4 is a small improvement over PHP 7.3 while PHP 8.0 squeezes out even more performance.
