29-Way GPU Comparison On Linux From Kepler & Cypress To Today's Pascal & Vega
Running Serious Sam 3 BFE with Vulkan at 1080p with ultra quality settings can still hit 60 FPS with a Radeon RX 460. Interestingly with the maturity of the RADV driver, the GTX 1060 and RX 460 are in line for this game while the RX 560 is much further along.
The open-source Tesseract game is another OpenGL title that can play fine on all of the hardware tested at 1080p but does still continue to scale with the latest graphics cards. This is another OpenGL game where the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver happens to allow much better performance than the current NVIDIA Linux OpenGL driver.
The 2013 Tomb Raider game with OpenGL on Linux can run fine on most of the hardware tested.
I hope you found these numbers fascinating for the current standing of the Linux drivers and the GPUs going back several generations. More interesting/historical comparisons are coming up as part of the Phoronix 14th birthday benchmarking.
