At compressing a 256MB file using LZMA compression, Kubuntu was faster but by a mere two seconds.

The lead widened between Kubuntu 9.04 and PC-BSD 7.1 when encrypting a 2GB file using GnuPG. Kubuntu 9.04 was nearly 28% faster than PC-BSD 7.1 at encrypting a single, large file.

Kubuntu 9.04 lost to PC-BSD 7.1 when it came to the POV-Ray test, which measures the ray-tracing performance. PC-BSD was faster by approximately 14%.

Using C-Ray, which is a simpler ray-tracing test, the performance was about the same between the BSD and Linux operating system.
