ODROID-X Continues Battling The PandaBoard ES
Here's the latest benchmarks of the low-cost ODROID-X, a $129 quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 development board out of Korea with ARM Mali 400 graphics.
For just $129 USD, the ODROID-X development board is very interesting with packing Samsung's quad-core Exynos 4412 ARM Cortex-A9 processors running at 1.4GHz per core, Mali-400 MP Core graphics, six USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet, and support for running Android and/or Ubuntu/Linaro.
Already on Phoronix there have been benchmarks comparing the quad-core ODROID-X to the NVIDIA Tegra 3 and the PandaBoard ES that produced rather favorable results for this low-cost high-performance ARMv7 development board. Subsequently through the power of OpenBenchmarking.org there were even benchmarks comparing the ODROID-X to a Sony PlayStation 3.
Being published today are new ODROID-X benchmarks against the PandaBoard ES but this time around both competing ARM platforms (Samsung Exynos vs. Texas Instruments OMAP4) were running the Linaro 12.08 operating system. Though as shown recently, the Linaro ARM performance isn't too different from upstream Ubuntu ARM. The Exynos 4412 ODROID-X and OMAP4460 PandaBoard ES were each running Linaro 12.08 with Unity 2D, an EXT4 file-system for the SDHC card, and the same GCC 4.6 tool-chain. While both were running Linaro 12.08, the OMAP4 image is using the Linux 3.4.0-2-linaro-lt-omap kernel and the ODROID-X is relying upon the Linux 3.6.0-rc2 kernel. Both systems were using hard floating-point binaries.
