GeForce 700 vs. Radeon Rx 200 Series With The Latest Linux Drivers
At least with Unigine Heaven, the R9 290 could beat out the GTX 770. Obviously the GTX 780 Ti is by far the fastest graphics card we currently have at Phoronix for benchmarking.
It's too bad our selection of AMD Radeon hardware is much more limited than the GeForce selection of GPUs, thanks to NVIDIA's better Linux cooperation with Phoronix.
With Unigine Tropics, the R9 290 was performing between the GTX 760 and GTX 770... Under the open-source drivers, these results would be different. AMD Hawaii open-source support is still primitive and doesn't enable hardware acceleration by default, but in general the open-source AMD support is better than the Nouveau-based open-source NVIDIA support. The main issue on the open-source NVIDIA side is still the lack of dynamic re-clocking support.
