The test hardware consisted of an AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor, 2GB of OCZ Reaper HPC DDR2-800 memory, and a 160GB Western Digital SATA 2.0 HDD. The motherboard used during the NVIDIA GeForce 8200 testing was the ECS GF8200A and during the Radeon HD 3200 testing was the previously reviewed ECS A780GM-A v1.0. For added value, we have also thrown a GeForce 8500GT 256MB into the mix, which was benchmarked with the ECS GF8200A motherboard.

On the software side was Fedora 9 (x86_64) with the Linux 2.6.25.4-30 kernel, X Server 1.4.99.901, and GCC 4.3.0. The ATI Linux driver being used was Catalyst 8.6.

The tests we used had included Nexuiz, OpenArena, Doom 3, Quake 4, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and X-Plane to represent a mix of both open and closed source games as well as X-Plane for representing non-gaming OpenGL rendering tasks. For 2D testing there was GtkPerf to measure the GTK performance with the different GPUs. All testing was done within the Phoronix Test Suite 1.0.0. If you would like to compare your system to these test results on Linux, run phoronix-test-suite benchmark michael-28978-12348-11892.
