NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Linux Performance From Gaming To TensorFlow & Compute
With Thrones of Britannia, one of the Linux game ports last year to Vulkan by Feral Interactive, the RTX 2060 was running just under 60 FPS at 1440p with ultra quality visuals.
It was a similar story with Warhammer II, the latest major Linux game release by Feral Interactive, and the performance coming in line with the RX Vega 64 and just behind the GTX 1080. Of course, when talking power efficiency, the RTX 2060 was still coming in well ahead of the Vega graphics cards.
Dawn of War III, one of the early Vulkan game ports by Feral Interactive, saw the RX Vega 64 actually coming in at 83 FPS to the RTX 2060's 78 FPS, but the RTX 2060 did offer higher minimum frame-rates for this older Linux game.
Over the course of all the Linux games tested, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Founder's Edition had an average core temperature of 62 degrees and a peak of 72 degrees, much lower than the reference RX Vega 64 with an average temperature of 70 degrees and a peak of 85 degrees. The RTX 2060's thermal performance was also much better than the GTX 1080 and even its predecessor, the GTX 1060.
Here is a look at the AC system power consumption over the course of all the Linux gaming tests ran. The overall power draw of this Core i9 9900K system with GeForce RTX 2060 was on average at 197 Watts with a peak of 256 Watts. Meanwhile, the RX Vega 64 had an average power consumption up at 294 Watts with a peak of 394 Watts, only outdone by the much more powerful TITAN RTX graphics card. The RTX 2060 power consumption was also much lower than the GeForce GTX 1080 that it was dancing with in most of the benchmarks.
