The Tighter NVIDIA GeForce vs. AMD Radeon Linux Gaming Battle With 396.54 + Mesa 18.3-dev Drivers
First up was Deus Ex: Mankind Divided where the RX 580 still manages to outperform the GTX 1060 even with these latest drivers. With Vega, the RX Vega 56 was running in line with the GTX 1070 and the RX Vega 64 in line with the GTX 1080. Granted, with the recently announced GeForce RTX 2080 series there will be even more performance to be had on the NVIDIA side, which will be interesting to see once we have our hands on those newer graphics cards.
With Dota 2 on OpenGL at 4K, the RX 580 dips below the GeForce GTX 1060 while the RX Vega graphics cards continue performing quite poor in this game with the RX Vega 64 only breaking even with the GTX 1070.
Even when migrating Dota 2 to the Vulkan renderer, the RX Vega performance remains quite poor and below the GTX 1070.
Dawn of War III is quite CPU bound on Linux even with Vulkan but from these numbers all of the tested Radeon graphics cards were performing frames less than the GeForce GTX 1060.
