Open-Source NVIDIA Driver Approaches Stable State

Being based upon the same open-source idTech3-derived game engine, the World of Padman results are similar. However, there is one interesting thing to note and that is the GeForce 8600GTS also running at the speed of the NVIDIA binary driver!

Reaction is one of the more demanding open-source idTech3 games for Linux users that still successfully runs on the Mesa/Gallium3D drivers. The GT 220 and 9500GT now fall behind the proprietary drivers, but the GeForce 8600GTS performance is rather strange for this game and actually performs very good and it comes out ahead of the binary blob.
