Trying Out Nouveau's Accelerated Pascal Support With DRM-Next, Mesa 17.2-dev
With the GTX 1050, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080 I ran some DRM-Next + Mesa 17.2-dev vs. NVIDIA 381.09 benchmarks for reference. Given the lack of re-clocking, I ran only some of the lighter-weight OpenGL Linux games for comparison. All tests done via the Phoronix Test Suite.
To little surprise due to the lack of re-clocking, the NVIDIA binary driver remains many times faster than the Nouveau driver stack with what will be found in Linux 4.12 and Mesa 7.2.
The re-clocking situation for Maxwell and Pascal will likely take a lot of work to solve, especially as it might not be fully-solved until if/when NVIDIA releases the signed PMU firmware.
