Running The Native ZFS Linux Kernel Module, Plus Benchmarks

ZFS on Linux fell in last with ZFS-FUSE when it came to running one Dbench client with EXT4 being 50% faster and XFS being more than twice as fast.

With FS-Mark when creating 1000 files of 1MB size, the ZFS file-system on Linux managed to outperform the Btrfs file-system and its performance was nearly tied with the XFS performance on the Linux 2.6.32 kernel, but with this test, the XFS performance dramatically increased between the Linux 2.6.32 and 2.6.37 kernel milestones.

The ZFS file-system was tied neck-and-neck with Btrfs for a first place finish with the Threaded I/O Tester when handling eight threads of 32MB random writes while EXT4 and XFS were much slower than the two. Native ZFS on Linux did very well with this random write disk test and was far ahead of the ZFS-FUSE performance that was rather crippled and the performance of OpenSolaris / OpenIndiana.
