AMD Ryzen, EPYC 5~6% Faster Out-Of-The-Box With Linux 5.11
First up are some of the interesting results for Linux 5.11 with the Ryzen 9 5900X.
As shown in prior articles on multiple systems, the CPU-bound Linux games tend to perform better on Linux 5.11 with Schedutil/Ondemand than on prior kernels. For GPU-bound scenarios the performance is similar, unless using Radeon RX 6000 series hardware where there are RDNA2 improvements with this new kernel in the AMDGPU DRM driver.
It's for CPU threaded workloads where Linux 5.11 Git is performing much better than Linux 5.10, unlike in prior weeks where the regressed state led to a sizable performance degredation. Fortunately, everything was buttoned up this week in leading to good results.
