Linux 4.4 To 4.16 Kernel Benchmarks With AMD Ryzen Threadripper
The semaphores micro-benchmark via Stress-NG is reporting slightly better performance with Linux 4.16.
Though on Linux 4.15/4.16 the socket performance is lower in the wake of Spectre mitigation.
The context switching performance is a bit of a mixed bag.
The NGINX web server performance has been sliding lower on recent kernel releases, similar to what we have observed with Intel Linux testing too.
The same goes for Apache with the latest kernels running at the lowest levels of the tested kernel versions.
The OSBench micro-benchmark is reporting a longer time in creating new threads since Linux 4.15, likely due to Retpolines.
