With some of the I/O tests there aren't as many wild performance swings on Linux 4.15+ as there was on the Intel systems with also having Meltdown mitigation via KPTI.

On the Netperf front for some networking benchmarks, the Linux 4.16 performance is in line with previous kernels or in some tests actually doing its best since Linux 4.8. As mentioned, pre-4.8 results aren't available just because of the Ethernet driver support for this X399 motherboard having only been mainlined at that point.

The time to compile the Linux kernel remained basically the same for all of these tested releases.
