Benchmarking The Linux Kernel With An "-O3" Optimized Build
In a range of I/O benchmarks, the -O3 kernel *sometimes* yielded slightly better performance when not bound by the underlying storage speed. However, these gains tended to be very thin and could be chalked up as noise aside from this regularly faint lead on the -O3 kernel build. But any normal user would not notice a material difference for I/O with the -O3 optimized kernel.
