Intel Performance With Ubuntu Linux vs. Windows 8.1 Is A Mixed Bag

In all of the tested Unigine Engine benchmarks, the Windows 8.1 Pro x64 performance with the latest Intel driver was superior to that of Ubuntu Linux. Upgrading to the Linux 3.12 kernel and Mesa 10.0 also hadn't helped for this demanding OpenGL game engine.

The Windows performance was competitive to the Ubuntu 13.10 "out of the box" Intel Haswell HD Graphics performance, but when moving to Mesa 10.0 there was a big performance improvement in the Unvanquished game. This Daemon engine game is now much faster with the very latest open-source Intel Linux driver code than under Windows.
