Intel Mesa 7.9 Benchmarks
Mesa 7.8 did much better than the older 7.7 release with World of Padman too, but here we see Mesa 7.9-devel taking a nose-dive in terms of performance with its frame-rate for this OpenGL game being much lower when using the newer code except at 1920 x 1080.
With Smokin' Guns the game performance was the same between 7.7 and 7.9-devel, but Mesa 7.8 was noticeably faster than the two versions.
Lastly, with Mesa 7.9-devel under Urban Terror its performance too was lower than that of Mesa 7.8.3, which in turn was much better than that of Mesa 7.7.1.
It looks like Intel's 3D performance may be down with Mesa 7.9 and is not something we have noticed with the other hardware drivers tested. This is unfortunate since for many games the open-source Intel Linux driver is only on the brink of being playable with their hardware not being the most powerful but in comparison to the Intel Windows driver, the Intel Linux driver is much slower. This investigation will continue once returning from Oktoberfest.
