When turning to the latest OpenArena game release, version 0.8.8, which finally makes use of GLSL shaders and other rendering improvements, the performance falls. The Intel Core i7 3770K at 1920 x 1080 is below 30 FPS. The graphics cards with their open-source drivers coming out ahead now are the Radeon HD 4670, Radeon HD 5750, Radeon HD 6570, Radeon HD 6770, and GeForce 9800GT. The GeForce 9500GT offered a similar level of performance to the i7-3770K. The Radeon HD 6770 backed by its Gallium3D driver was 48% faster while the 9800GT was 66% faster than these latest Intel Gen7 graphics.

With these results, the Intel Core i7 3770K also finally misses delivering the best performance-per-Watt.

However, the i7-3770K does maintain its low overall system power consumption.
