How Intel HD Graphics On Linux Compare To Open-Source AMD/NVIDIA Drivers With Steam On Linux
With the open-source Radeon and Nouveau drivers there were issues with some of the graphics cards running Team Fortress 2, but the Intel Mesa driver worked out fine. At 1920 x 1080 for Team Fortress 2 the graphics of the Core i7 4790K CPU were averaging just above 60 FPS. Again, when comparing open-source Linux drivers, the HD Graphics 4600 come in right around the speed of the Radeon HD 4800 series and for TF2 about the speed of the more modern Radeon HD 6570 graphics card.
Hopefully this round-up of all the open-source graphics tests were useful to you if you're strictly into using open-source Linux software... Radeon remains the best bet for Linux gamers while Intel Haswell graphics will work out fine for light gaming and other non-gaming tasks (video encode/decode, OpenCL support is forming around Beignet, etc). With the open-source NVIDIA state it's still a big mess and really not suitable for gaming or other performance-sensitive workloads.
