While the NPB CG.B test favored the Sandy Bridge micro-architecture, with the EP.B test it heavily preferred the older Core i7 970. When comparing the processors at their stock speeds, the Core i7 970 was approximately 71% faster in this test than the Core i5 2500K.

With the IS.C test, the table flipped again where the Core i5 2500K came out in front by 26%.

With the last NPB test in this article, SP.A, the i7-970 and i7-2500K performance when overclocked was nearly even.
