Ubuntu 24.04 LTS & Fedora 40 Continue To Trail Intel's Linux Performance Optimizations
Out of 77 benchmarks run on all the Linux configurations, Clear Linux was in first place around 71% of the time to Ubuntu 24.04 leading just 5% of the time and Fedora Workstation 40 with wins 22% of the time.
Most often, Ubuntu 24.04 was the slowest of the tested Linux operating systems on this Intel Core i9 14900K desktop. See all the benchmarks in full here.
When taking the geometric mean of all the Linux distributions, Clear Linux was 8% faster than the new releases of Fedora Workstation 40 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Even when running Clear Linux with the Intel P-State powersave governor was still very healthy advantages over Ubuntu and Fedora. Hopefully Canonical continues working on their performance optimizations for Ubuntu 23.10 and ahead along with more Linux distributions exploring use of x86-64 micro-architecture feature levels and other enhancements in the name of better Linux x86_64 performance on modern/recent hardware.
