Intel Xeon Platinum 8380: 2021 vs. 2022 Performance For Ubuntu, Clear Linux, CentOS Stream

Clear Linux was seeing some very nice improvements with its OpenJDK Java performance over the past year and only widened its lead over the other Linux distributions.

Interestingly in some of the benchmarks the newer CentOS Stream regressed the performance compared to its state last year. The likely issue there is CentOS Stream 8 last year defaulted to the Intel P-State performance governor where as now with CentOS Stream 9 it is rally silly and defaults to the powersave governor, similar to Ubuntu.

The video encoder benchmarks are commonly an area that are very sensitive to CPU frequency scaling governor changes. Too bad in 2022 that all Linux distributions on servers don't default to the "performance" governor.
