First up for our Linux benchmarking of the Xeon E3-1231 v3 is comparing this Haswell processor to the Skylake CPUs I have available for testing: Pentium G4400, Core i5 6500, Core i5 6600K, and the Xeon E3 1245 v5. For this testing the systems were running the Linux 4.4 kernel atop Ubuntu 15.10 x86_64 with GCC 5.2.1.

It depends upon the workload, but generally the E3-1231 v3 performs well and for being Haswell still holds its ground.
