While the 5220R/6226R dual socket configuration was going up against the EPYC 7352 2P very well in OSPray, with Intel's Embree ray-tracing kernels the EPYC 7352 tended to carry the advantage except when making use of ISPC (the Intel SPMD Program Compiler that is well optimized for their microarchitecture).

Other Intel open-source software packages were delivering numbers largely in line with expectations.

The higher core counts on AMD EPYC Rome were paying off for the rendering workloads like LuxCoreRender but at least the Xeon Gold 5220R/6226R are showing off their much better performance capabilities (and pricing) in relation to the previous SKUs like the Xeon Gold 5218 and Silver 4216... Again, all the performance-per-dollar metrics at the end of this article.
