FreeBSD 12.0 Performance Against Windows & Linux On An Intel Xeon Server

In the Fhourstones test, FreeBSD was the slowest with 12.0 having just a small performance improvement over 11.2.

With SciMark2 reinforcing a possible explanation, it does seem in the single-threaded tests that FreeBSD on this dual Xeon server is much slower than Windows and Linux.

With the multi-threaded x264 video encoding benchmark, FreeBSD was up near the front.

With the GraphicsMagick OpenMP-based image processing, using GCC does yield better performance than the default Clang compiler although Linux and Windows were faster.

With the 7-Zip compression benchmark that built fine on FreeBSD with GCC but had issues with Clang, the performance came out ahead of Windows Server but well behind the Linux distributions.
