Debian GNU/Linux also possessed a big advantage for the John The Ripper open-source cryptography program.

It's slightly slower compiling programs on the newer Debian Wheezy with the more advanced GCC 4.7 compiler.

GCC 4.7 continues to be of great performance benefit to the C-Ray multi-threaded ray-tracer. The newer GCC on Debian GNU/kFreeBSD from Wheezy also allowed it to better compete against the Linux flavor.
