Intel Coffee Lake OpenGL Performance On Windows 10 vs. Linux
Unigine's benchmarks were the most demanding OpenGL tests used and basically amounts to torture with the Coffee Lake UHD Graphics at 1080p... But for what it's worth, the Intel Mesa driver came in right behind the Windows performance, basically the same.
Xonotic at low quality settings at 1080p is easily playable on Intel graphics hardware. Windows 10 was about 6% faster than the Linux stacks tested, but it really wouldn't be noticeable to gamers given the nearly 300 FPS. Between the Linux stacks in this CPU limited case, Clear Linux and Ubuntu were running at the same speed.
When moving up to high quality settings, the Linux and Windows results were now effectively in line with Ubuntu even squeezing out a few more frames per second.
Things are still looking good at ultra quality settings where Xonotic runs at just under 120 FPS on the Core i7 8700K.
Finally was pushing things to ultimate where the i7-8700K still came in above 60 FPS. The results between Windows and Linux remained effectively tied. This is great to see as originally Intel Gen 9 graphics on Linux were still noticeably slower than the Windows drivers at the time.
