AMDGPU-PRO 18.30 Pro/Open vs. Upstream Mesa OpenGL/Vulkan Radeon Benchmarks
First up was the OpenGL-powered Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. As we've been used to seeing for a while now, using the PRO driver stack with the closed-source OpenGL driver stack leads to much lower performance than using RadeonSI Gallium3D.... The Open 18.30 vs. Ubuntu 18.04 stock performance is close to the same given it's just Mesa 18.0 vs. 18.1 while Mesa 18.3-dev (and 18.2) has been a bit slower in some benchmarks as shown in this game too.
Dota 2 with OpenGL saw the best performance -- tied -- out-of-the-box on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS and using the latest Mesa 18.3 + Linux 4.18. When using the open driver configuration on AMDGPU-PRO 18.30 there was a drop in performance but at least not as bad as the "PRO" OpenGL driver having performance almost half of RadeonSI Gallium3D on both the Polaris and Vega graphics cards.
The Dota 2 Vulkan performance was close between the driver options except for Vulkan failing with the pure open driver configuration on AMDGPU-PRO 18.30 under Dota 2.
Running Dota 2 at 4K, it was a similar story of the PRO OpenGL driver still running much slower than the RadeonSI options. The RADV performance on Mesa 18.3-dev is running very well against the PRO 18.30 Vulkan driver configuration, something that couldn't be said last year.
