AMD Shanghai Opteron CPUs On Linux

After the BIOS upgrade on the Tyan Thunder n3600M, the two AMD Opteron 2384 processors just worked without any issues.

With no motherboard upgrade being required for the AMD Shanghai and many Opteron workstation/server customers using Linux, we expected these new 45nm quad-core processors to work with Linux. The AMD Opteron 2384 processors had worked as expected on Linux without any problems -- certainly not like anything we witnessed when the AMD Phenom first came about Linux. We tested the Tyan Thunder n3600M with Opteron 2384 CPUs on Fedora 10, Ubuntu 8.10, and various other distributions. No problems were to be spotted with these distributions using the Linux 2.6.27 kernel.
