For looking at the Linux performance of the ATI FirePro V8700 1GB graphics card we compared it to the ATI FireGL V8600 1GB and Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 512MB Toxic Vapor-X graphics cards. The FireGL V8600 has a GPU core clock of 688MHz with 868MHz memory clock while the FirePro V8700 runs at 750MHz for its RV770XT core and 850MHz for its GDDR5 memory. Lastly, the consumer RV770XT part was running at 780MHz with 1GB of GDDR5.

Powering this round of workstation graphics tests was the Phoronix Test Suite with most of our tests coming from the Phoronix Certification & Qualification Suite for workstation graphics (pcqs-workstation-graphics). With the Phoronix Test Suite on Ubuntu Linux we ran several SPECViewPerf 9.0 and SPECViewPerf 10.0 tests. To see how well the performance was outside of these workstation benchmarks, we also ran Nexuiz and Lightsmark. The PTS Unigine benchmarks with the Tropics and Sanctuary demo would have been great to run with the FirePro series, but sadly using Catalyst 9.2 we experienced crashes.
