AMD Catalyst vs. X.Org Radeon Driver 2D Performance
The Catalyst Linux driver pulled back in front when it came to the text performance in QGears2. The text performance was 48% faster using Catalyst 8.12.
The winner flipped around once again with the QGears2 X Render image scaling task. Here the open-source driver was just about 14% faster.
In the long-standing Render Bench benchmark, overall the Catalyst driver took significantly (more than five times) longer compared to the xf86-video-ati driver on the same hardware.
