Running Intel's Clear Linux On AMD EPYC Rome? Still Significant Performance Uplift Over Ubuntu
Due to tuning of Clear Linux at varying levels just not with the compiler flags but from Glibc through the Linux kernel, Clear Linux continues to offer very competitive performance with the video encode speed on the CPUs. Some of the Clear speed-ups are massive for encoding tasks even with many of these programs being tested are already using hand-tuned Assembly upstream.
The proprietary NeatVideo 5 video editing benchmark saw a 22% speed-up when running its binary under Clear Linux.
Clear Linux was also much speedier at building the GCC compiler suite over Ubuntu but did hit some slowdowns in the LLVM compilation speed. Clear's compile times are not always the fastest due to the aggressive CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS by default that can lead to longer build times due to extra optimization passes.
Even with using the official Linux x86_64 Blender binary across distributions, Clear Linux was yielding some advantages over Ubuntu.
