Linux 5.11 Is Now Looking Great For AMD Zen 2 / Zen 3 Performance
First up is a quick look at the Ryzen 9 5950X performance between Linux 5.10 stable, Linux 5.11 Git, and then Linux 5.11 Git with yesterday's patch. The default Schedutil governor was used across the kernels.
It didn't take long to see that the big performance regression is indeed addressed by this new patch. But making things even more exciting were cases like Tesseract that weren't affected much in the first place from this regression due to the frequency invariance enablement but now seeing significant uplift on the patched kernel.
The patched kernel is performing much better on this Ryzen 9 5950X and should work out similarly for other Zen 2 / Zen 3 desktops that are using the Schedutil governor.
