AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X / 3960X Linux Benchmarks
For John The Ripper, the Threadripper 3960X had a 26% advantage over the Core i9 10980XE while the Threadripper 3970X carried a 69% advantage.
Threadripper's more cores dominated easily with the OpenMP-threaded GraphicsMagick imaging program.
The improvement from Zen+ Threadripper to Zen 2 Threadripper CPUs was enough for the new parts to outperform the Core i9 10980XE in a convolution test with Intel's own MKL-DNN / DNNL deep learning software.
But when switching from the f32 to u8s8f32 data types for AVX-512 usage, the Core i9 10980XE in that case came out much faster.
In some other Intel software workloads like OSPray that is part of their new oneAPI effort, the new Threadripper 3960X/3970X processors still were delivering the best performance.
With Intel's Embree and Open Image Denoise software packages, the new Threadripper processors performed great as well.
