AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X / 3960X Linux Benchmarks
For this comparison the processors tested included the:
- AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
- AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX
- AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX
- AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X
- AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X
- Intel Core i9 10980XE
Unfortunately I was never seeded with any Ryzen 9 3950X review sample so I do not have that for comparison. The other comparison points on the Intel side were a bit limited due to having to restart all of the testing following the disclosures two weeks ago around the JCC Erratum and TAA vulnerabilities as well as my wife giving birth two weeks ago having wreaked havoc on the schedule. In any case, these are the initial Threadripper 3960X/3970X benchmarks today with many more on the way this month still and over the weeks ahead.
The systems had 4 x 16GB DDR4-3600 Corsair memory, Samsung 970 PRO 512GB NVMe SSD, Radeon RX 580 graphics (GPU-based workloads isn't the focus of today's comparison), Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W power supply, and was running Ubuntu 19.10 with the Linux 5.4 Git kernel.
The default CPU vulnerability mitigations and latest CPU microcode were running on all of the systems under test. Via the Phoronix Test Suite more than 100 benchmarks were run on all of these systems for our launch-day benchmarking.
