Trying Out The BSDs & OpenIndiana On AMD EPYC + Tyan 2U Server
For those curious about some BSD benchmarks of the EPYC 7601 server, I did carry out some Phoronix Test Suite driven tests compared to our recent Linux distribution benchmarks of FreeBSD/TrueOS.
Overall, the results basically come in line with expectations given our past BSD vs. Linux testing on different platforms. Depending upon the workload, the performance difference can be dramatic if using the LLVM Clang compiler that's often used by default on the BSDs while switching over to GCC can often make up a fair amount of the difference compared to Linux.
If anyone has any other BSD test requests or EPYC benchmark requests in general, let us know.
