The new AMD EPYC 7002 processors easily blow past the Xeon Platinum 8280 in a far majority of the benchmarks we've tried over the past number of weeks.

The libjpeg-turbo library's JPEG decompression benchmark is single-threaded and thus is a case of the Xeon Scalable processors coming out ahead given their higher core frequencies, for reference purposes about the single-threaded speed. Over the original EPYC processors we are seeing 25% better performance.

PyBench is another single-threaded benchmark and as a result the Xeon Scalable CPUs come out ahead with their higher clock speeds. But it's interesting to see here the roughly 15% better Python performance generation-over-generation for EPYC.

PHPBench is another single-threaded test case used for seeing the improvement over Naples. The EPYC 7742 still obviously comes up short of the Platinum 8280 given the clock differences but is 26% faster than Naples.

The MySQL/MariaDB performance is another scenario where the EPYC Rome performance didn't beat out the Xeon Scalable Cascadelake performance, but AMD is investigating.
