AMD EPYC 7502 + EPYC 7742 Linux Performance Benchmarks

First up was the NAMD benchmark where we right away we see the size of Rome's hammer. The EPYC 7502 that costs just around $2,600 USD was going up against an Intel Xeon Platinum 8280 that costs around $10k USD. The dual EPYC 7502 configuration easily blew way past the single Xeon Platinum 8280 and not far behind the dual 8280 results. The EPYC 7742 pulled in successfully right ahead of the previous-generation EPYC 7601 2P results while the EPYC 7742 2P performance easily stole the show.

The CP2K molecular dynamics package doesn't scale well, but here it's interesting to note the performance improvement from the EPYC Naples to EPYC Rome processors.

In OpenMP-threaded workloads like John The Ripper, the dual EPYC 7502 configuration easily outperformed the dual Xeon Platinum 8280 (as did the EPYC 7742 1P) and came out as 37% faster than the EPYC 7601 2P server.
