AMD Ryzen 5 9600X & Ryzen 7 9700X Linux Performance With 105 Watt cTDP
In total I ran nearly 400 benchmarks for my Ryzen 9000 series testing.
The Ryzen 5 9600X with a 105 Watt cTDP had an average power draw of 97 Watts and a peak of 142 Watts across the span of all the benchmarks compared to the default 65 Watt TDP having a 73 Watt average and 103 Watt peak. Similarly, the Ryzen 7 9700X had a 102 Watt average and 143 Watt peak when using the 105W cTDP or at the 65W TDP was a 73 Watt average and 101 Watt peak.
When taking the geometric mean of all the benchmark results, the Ryzen 7 9700X saw a 6% boost to the performance overall but enough to now put it ahead of the Core i9 14900K on a geo mean basis. With the Ryzen 5 9600X was a 2.5% improvement on a geo mean basis when engaging the 105W cTDP.

If taking just the Ryzen 7 9700X data side-by-side, here's a look at the impact of the 105 Watt configurable TDP. OSPRay Studio, ScyllaDB, OpenVINo, and video encoders were among the big winners able to show a 15~20% improvement with simply activating this higher TDP option from the newest BIOS on AM5 motherboards. For those using a lower-tier Ryzen CPU for edge inferencing or the like and making use of OpenVINO or other similar software, the 105 Watt TDP may prove useful. Or similarly for video encoding/transcoding at the edge with these mid-tier processors.
The AMD Ryzen 5 9600X similarly benefited from the 105 Watt cTDP in workloads like OpenVINO, video encoders, and others but there was typically in the 5~10% range at best. The Ryzen 7 9700X was able to benefit more from the 105 Watt cTDP to deliver greater uplift in the creator, HPC, AI, and other multi-threaded workloads.
