First up was the scientific Parboil benchmark with its Distance-Cutoff Coulombic Potential test using OpenMP for threading. The Threadripper 2920WX understandably came in behind the Threadripper 1950X and came in mid-way between the Ryzen 7 2700X and Core i9 7960X performance... The 7960X costs about twice as much though as the 2920X. The Threadripper 2970WX came in line with expectations being between the 2950X and 2990WX while all of these high-end Threadripper parts were faster than the current Intel flagship Core i9 7980XE.

Under Rodinia the $649 Threadripper 2920X did outperform the ~$930 Core i9 7900X while the 2970WX remained a great deal faster than the Core i9 7980XE.

Under the NAMD scientific test, the Threadripper 2920X came in just behind the Core i9 7900X with this particular workload while the Threadripper 2970WX and Core i9 7980XE were effectively tied, which still is an accomplishment considering the large price difference in these processors.
