HVM was edging out Xen PV in several benchmarks with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

The benchmark results were close for many CPU-bound tests, but overall it seems Xen HVM within Amazon's EC2 cloud (at least on the c3.large instance type) is edging out Xen PV when using Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS.

Curious about the performance differences in other environments or your own Linux virtualization benchmarks? It's just as easy as firing up the Phoronix Test Suite. There's also the complementary OpenBenchmarking.org and Phoromatic projects.
