Particularly in the HPC space like with miniBUDE, the newer default compiler toolchain could make a huge impact on the out-of-the-box performance with Amazon Linux. Granted with AL2 you could manually build/fetch your own newer compiler and the like, but as far as using the default/official toolchain there were some very nice gains seen in the HPC space with Amazon Linux 2023 on Graviton3 (c7g.metal).

Though not all high performance computing workloads enjoyed such lofty speed-ups on Amazon Linux 2023...

Zstd Compression benchmark with settings of Compression Level: 8, Decompression Speed. Amazon Linux 2023 was the fastest.
Zstd Compression benchmark with settings of Compression Level: 19, Decompression Speed. Amazon Linux 2023 was the fastest.
Zstd Compression benchmark with settings of Compression Level: 19, Long Mode, Decompression Speed. Amazon Linux 2023 was the fastest.

But considering that Amazon Linux 2023 comes at no cost, even the smaller speed-ups can mean increased value for your Amazon EC2 cloud instances.
