Benchmarks: Amazon EC2 C5ad Instances Launch For AMD EPYC Rome With Local NVMe Storage
The c5ad.4xlarge with AMD EPYC Rome was outperforming the similarly sized Intel Xeon instance. It is important to note that the C5d is using Intel Xeon Platinum Skylake rather than Cascade Lake albeit is the latest EC2 is offering for the "d" series. Even with Skylake being older, the cost of these instances is still higher than using the latest-generation AMD EPYC 7002 series.
So to little surprise, the AMD C5ad instance was delivering better performance-per-dollar....
Given Amazon's advertised use-cases for the C5ad line-up of media workloads and more, those were among the workloads focused on for benchmarking. In both raw performance and performance-per-dollar, the C5ad was coming out ahead of the Intel-backed "D" instance.
