Acer C720 Chromebook Delivers Fast Ubuntu Performance
For being a $200 laptop, the Acer C720 performance wasn't bad at all. The Haswell Celeron performed surprisingly decent with both CPU and GPU tasks, which can be improved by using the very latest Linux development code as future Phoronix articles will illustrate from this Celeron 2955U Chromebook. The C720 itself is also built quite nicely and with competitive specs for its low cost. The only Linux compatibility complaint about the Acer C720 is the current issue of the touchpad not working on Linux distributions outside of Chrome OS.
Stay tuned for additional C720 Chromebook / Celeron 2955U Linux benchmarks shortly. Compare your own system's performance against these results by installing the Phoronix Test Suite and running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1312061-SO-CHROMEBOO30. Also coming up will be power consumption and performance-per-Watt data.
