Looking over the GtkPerf benchmarks, right now XAA with both the xf86-video-ati and xf86-video-radeonhd drivers is faster than EXA because the CPU is still being utilized. EXA should experience a performance boost though in the future once additional operations are accelerated and using the GPU's command processor. When looking at the XAA performance between the two open-source R500 supportive drivers the results were nearly identical with no clear winner. The Catalyst 8.01 driver had performed about the same speed as XAA with the two drivers. Looking at the EXA performance, the results were also close while the xf86-video-ati driver did have a slight advantage. This EXA/XAA support is only hours old and we will be continuing this investigation and share any major findings. You can share your results in the Phoronix Forums.
