Manually modifying xorg.conf: 46.52%
Using a graphical utility: 33.50%
XRandR: 5.66%
Vendor-specific text-based utility: 11.45%
Other: 2.84%

While NVIDIA has nvidia-settings/nvidia-xconfig and ATI has amdcccle/ati-config and the open-source drivers have a number of different options from Ubuntu's displayconfig-gtk to Red Hat's system-config-display, the leading choice for configuring the display(s) is still through manually modifying the xorg.conf. The usage of xrandr for configuration was under 6%.

Compiz: 8.40%
Beryl: 10.03%
Compiz Fusion: 39.71%

Accelerated desktop effects or "desktop bling" is capturing many new Linux users and opening up a host of new possibilities on the visual front. However, from this survey almost half of the users polled are not using a compositing window manager / desktop effects. The Compiz Fusion adoption was at 39.5% while the now defunct Beryl was at 10% and Compiz at 8%. Other compositing window managers represent KWin and friends.
