Mythbuntu 7.10: An Excellent MythTV Distribution

For managing all of the MythTV plug-ins is the "Applications & Plugins" page on the Mythbuntu Control Center. All MythTV plug-ins ship with Mythbuntu and they can be either enabled or disabled. These plug-ins range from MythBrowser for browsing the Internet within MythTV to MythWeb for scheduling recordings via a web-browser. On "Proprietary Drivers" is the Ubuntu Restricted Driver Manager as well as options to launch the display configuration utilities depending upon your graphics card. These utilities include nvidia-settings for NVIDIA graphics cards and the AMD Catalyst Control Center Linux Edition (AMDCCCLE) for ATI. There is also the universal displayconfig-gtk, which first premiered with Ubuntu 7.10.

Mythbuntu Control Center also provides an easy way to configure LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control). From the "Remote Control" area, a single remote control can be enabled and the remote is chosen from a list of different remotes and then the driver, module(s), and configuration are automatically populated. It's also possible using Mythbuntu Control Center to generate dynamic button maps.

For those that are new to Linux or prefer the easy way of doing things, the Mythbuntu Control Center allows for configuring some services common to MythTV systems. These servers include VNC, SSH, Samba, NFS, and MySQL. For the VNC service, the remote password can also be set from within the control center.
