As has become the case, there really is a minimal performance difference between the drivers. Comparing the 8.26.18 and 8.27.10 drivers, when it comes to the performance with the three gaming benchmarks used, there really was not a noticeable change in either direction. Outside of the low frame-rate performance, fglrx 8.27.10 brings X11R7.1 support, Fedora Core support, and Radeon X1000 TV-out support. With the X1k TV support comes the --tv-geometry option for aticonfig. Overall, ATI's 8.27.10 driver release shaped up to be yet another monthly release with a fair amount of changes. As always, feel free to discuss ATI Linux on the Phoronix Forums.
